WE’RE
HIRING
Come spring of ‘26 we’re opening a new retail shop and we’re in search of coworkers who are just as obsessed as we are with beautiful cake, memorable hospitality, and uncompromising quality to join us in the joy of the daily bake.
Come make beautiful
things with us.
If you’ve not yet experienced our brand, we’re borderline bananas about making really beautiful dessert and being really nice to each other and our customers in the process. In short, The Cakery on First is fun, it’s pretty, and it has the kind of high standards for production that make it a professionally challenging and personally rewarding work environment.

Pastry Cook
Overview:
The Cakery on First is seeking a pastry cook to support our Lead Baker and our Cake Maker. As the pastry cook you’ll be responsible for the preparation of 31 of our core building-block recipes from fillings (pastry cream, chocolate cremeux, caramel sauce, etc) to frostings (various buttercreams) to cookie doughs, sprinkles, marshmallows, and more. You’ll work directly with the Lead Baker and our Cake Maker to maintain and adjust par levels according to need.
You’ll enjoy this role if you love a dynamic, collaborative, and creative work environment, are quick to learn new tasks, and are not afraid of asking questions or taking direction. Successful interns will be reliable, responsible, and eager to learn with a teachable spirit and a can-do attitude. Naturally, a strong interest in baking and pastry is desirable. Must be comfortable working in the close quarters of the commercial kitchen and able to stand for up to 2 hours.

Pay:
$7.50/hourly

Please note that you must be at least 14 years of age to work in the State of Idaho.
Investing in Growth
We want you to love what you do. And it’s a lot easier to love what you do when you’re really good at it. Helping you develop your skills through ongoing training and intentional learning opportunities is a mutually beneficial thing and one of our highest priorities. To foster that development, we’ve come up with some fun ways to keep you learning, growing, and professionally challenged.
Quarterly Cake Workshops
Each quarter we’ll set aside time as a team to take part in Cake Camp, a dedicated series of one and two-day workshops specifically for our employees to grow in and practice their baking, cake construction, and decorating skills. Pastry, coffee, and cake all with your fellow team members just for the fun of it? Yes.
Personalized Training and Development Programs
Every team member’s goals are different. Maybe yours is learning the art of sugar flowers. Maybe you want to learn more about running the operational side of a business. Or maybe wedding cake construction is your dream. Whatever it is, we’ll make a plan and a path to help get you where you want to go and, along the way, hopefully create a role within the bakery that allows you to put what you love doing most into play every day.
Monthly Team Brunch
In addition to your training, we want you to feel connected to and invested in the business of The Cakery on First as a whole. We also just love an opportunity to hang out with each other, no prep list involved. For these reasons we host our monthly team brunch where we’ll enjoy the fruits of our labor around a table together and talk about what’s working and how to make things even better. Your feedback as a team member is truly valuable and our monthly team brunch makes sure it’s heard.
FAQs
I don't have formal baking experience. Should I still apply?Absolutely. A great baker is someone who is:
- teachable
- conscientious
- self-directed
- great at following detailed directions
- a big fan of making to-do lists and hyper-organization in general.
These invaluable qualities are difficult to teach. Baking, not so much. If this list describes you, you should definitely apply.
Do you hire high school students?Definitely.
While our intern positions (Flour Girls) were created in response to the many inquiries we receive from middle schoolers, our prep baker and dishwasher position was created with high schoolers in mind. That said, high schoolers are welcome and encouraged to apply for any role they think might be right for them.
Who is NOT a good fit for working at The Cakery on First? This is a fast-paced environment with early-ish mornings, busy Saturdays, and a small team that relies heavily on one another. If you’re looking for a slow-paced job or a highly independent role, this might not be the right fit.
Successful team members will share these values with us:
- reliability & punctuality
- kindness
- attention to detail
- pride in what you produce
