BUTTERCREAM LAYER CAKES

Layer cakes are the heart and soul of The Cakery on First. Each one is made lovingly from scratch from organic flour, organic, free-range eggs and organic fruits, vegetables, and nuts when the recipe calls for them. We use real vanilla, single-origin spices, and best-quality chocolate and all of our curds, custards, caramels, and preserves are made in-house in small batches. We also put a lot of time into presentation. For these reasons, our cakes cost more than ones you’ll find on grocery store shelves.

Each of our seasonally inspired flavors below is named affectionately after one of the baker’s gaggle of nieces and nephews. For decoration, you can choose between playful buttercream ruffles with a flutter of house-made multi-colored sprinkles or a beautiful floralscape of individually piped buttercream blossoms. All flourishes are made with the same ethereal Swiss meringue buttercream used to fill and frost our cakes. The final design of your semi-custom cake is safely in the hands of the baker. Kindly check your spam folder as we often get booted there. Your cake can be picked up downtown at The Pickled Kitchen (312 N First) during their normal business hours on your chosen pick up day.

During market season (May - October) we kindly request 7 days advance notice for your order. Available order dates are listed on our homepage.

Looking for a gluten-free cake?

For an additional $5, any of our premium cakes or our sweet & simple cakes may be made gluten-free. Three important things to note:

  • For the sake of structure (because gluten-free cakes lack the strength of traditional cakes) we bake the layers a little thicker and stack them three layers high instead of four. Same amount of cake, just a different layout.

  • All of our items are produced in the same commercial facility. That means that all-purpose flour has regular contact with surfaces and equipment. Our GF cakes are not suitable for those managing serious gluten allergies or celiac disease.

  • To order a GF cake simply leave us a note in the message box indicating that you’d like your cake to be gluten-free.
